We have enjoyed a magnificent Queens Birthday long weekend here in Australia and whilst I know Lizzy's birthday is in April I am still going to dedicate this post to an amazing woman who has inspired not only a nation, but a Commonwealth with her beauty, grace, humour and strength.

This is a gal that drove heavy vehicles during the war, strangled her own pheasants and had to make difficult decisions and yet still looked chic and stylish in divine frocks and to this day, still rocks a good hat.

And thanks to Liz I have had a fabulous long weekend with sleep-ins (huzzah!), watching my son play at half time during an AFL match (so proud!),
strolling around the stunning Southbank area of Melbourne,
enjoying family time at the Melbourne Aquarium (a whole post on that excursion to follow because there are soooo many happy snaps!) and a wander through the McClelland Sculpture Park.
Whew!
That's a whole lotta pics isn't it?
Can you tell how much fun I have had this weekend?
Thanks Liz!

How did you spend your weekend?
I am far from being a supporter of the royals, I'm afraid, and find the Queen a very dull and humourless woman! But hey, if there's a long weekend in it for you, that's fine! You sound as though you had a really lovely time with your family. xxxx
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny that I used to have heated arguments with my Gran, who is a staunch royalist, about how useless the royals are. I still support Australia to become a republic, but I have mellowed in my old age and after poring through some old books and magazines at work, can admire old Lizzy's style and would give anything to get a peek at all of her old frocks and hats. And I will give a shout out to anybody that can let me have such a wonderful long weekend. It really was lovely and we have created some great memories with the family. XXXX
ReplyDeleteI frigging LOVE Queenie! She's an astounding woman.

I love looking at early photos of her - so beautiful and chic! And the old gal has some awesome hats! XXX
ReplyDeleteThat first photo's lovely - but I think it might be Princess Margaret.
ReplyDeleteI have investigated because I suspected the same thing, but I keep finding the image tagged as Elizabeth. But it is such a beautiful image isn't it? Just stunning!
