Out, damned spot!

And why do I look so damned smug?
Because I am extremely impressed that I managed to remove this.
Can you see that gross stain that sat taunting me on my new-to-me op shopped frock?
Yep, yuck, I know.
And I normally steer clear of any stained clothes, but this dress totally spoke to me. Hell, it sang in sultry tones and I just had to have her despite her terrible coffee stain. But victory was mine because after a good soak and two washes the stain was gone and those beautiful shades were unblemished once more. Huzzah for Exit soap! No props for the unfeeling op shop worker who would not reduce the price of the dress though!
So my beautiful frock and I spent a perfect Sunday of the long weekend, having a fun BBQ with the in laws, and I somehow managed to keep my pretty frock with nary a spot or stain. Very clever of me, who somehow attracts every piece of food to her chest and lap, especially when said food is coated in a gooey, drippy sauce.
The in laws recently moved in to their newly built house in the country and their garden boasts some beautiful spots to relax already.
The kidlets adore their grand parents and playing all sorts of games with them that usually involve making lots of mess.
And now let me show off the dress again!
Such perfect shades of pink, mauve and aqua, make it a favourite already.
And it wouldn't be me if I didn't tell you that it made me insanely happy to match one of my other newly op shopped acquisitions.
I bought this bag in a fit of "my-3-year-old-is-about-to-have-a-tantrum-and-I-must-exit-the-shop-pronto", and I bought it because I loved the colour but thought it was an el-cheapo modern version, only to be very happily surprised to find it a high quality vintage.
I also found this darling recently. I'm not exactly sure if she is a vase and don't want  to test her ability at holding water but she is doing a grand job of wearing some fake flowers as a stunning headpiece.
Hope everyone is having a terrific weekend!

  1. Fantastic job!!! There are few more satisfying feeling than getting out a stubborn stain. I'll never forget how impressed my dear husband was when I was able to do so with some of his garments when we first started dating (laundry sorcery, he called it).

I love this whole cheerful, super pretty outfit! Aqua and teal tie for the tertiary position of my list of favourite hues and are colours I reach for often the whole year round. I sooo want to find (or make) an aqua necklace akin to yours now. I have several garments I could see it working really well with (including a red, white and aqua plaid 50s dress).

Have a stellar weekend, sweet gal!

  2. It was so satisfying (how awesome is laundry sorcery!) and I have been boasting to everyone. I have had pretty dresses that didn't fare so well and stains were just too stubborn but I got lucky this time. I adore teal and aqua so much as well - my house is full of both colours as I love them in decor too. I will keep my eyes open for aqua beads for you because at the moment I am on a beaded necklace blitz and just keep finding great ones. XXX

  3. I'm glad that you didn't let a stain conquer this gem of a dress. The colors are so uplifting. Very lovely dear Brooke!

  4. The dress is a beauty, and well done on sorting out that stain! I don't usually let stains put me off too much, especially on washable fabrics, and I have been reasonably successful at hand or cool machine washing vintage items which are supposedly dry clean only. I know it's a risk, but I am just not going to pay for dry cleaning (and it doesn't work half the time anyway.) love the colour of the bag, what a nice find! xxx

    1. I got lucky with this stain but I have a few pretty frocks that just won't get unblemished. No matter what I do! And I don't like paying for dry cleaning either. XXX

  5. Well done on demolishing the stain! it's such a pretty dress and the colours are gorgeous, I got my lilac polka dot dress half price as it had some weird waxy stuff on it, washing up liquid dissolved it! hurrah! your bag goes with the dress perfectly, it was an essential buy! the in-laws have an awesome home, and well done not spilling anything on your dress, I have been known to find food in my bra.........ew! have a great week Brooke! x x x

    1. Food in the bra! Me too! Especially popcorn at the movies for some reason. I am pretty sure that there should be a law about stained clothes being only $2. Or free. Free would be better.XXX

  6. Gorgeous dress! I get such satisfaction from getting rid of a nasty stain but what a mean op shop lady for not knocking something off at the till. You look beautiful with those pretty turquoise accessories.
What a fab place your parents have, the flower bed is stunning! xxx

    1. I do feel very smug and satisfied with myself! Domestic goddess! And yes, very mean op shop lady - the shop is always overpriced and I would love to boycott but am scared on what I might miss out on! XXX

  7. I'm amazed you got that spot out! I am notoriously bad at getting any stains out. My 7 year old daughter comes home from school with stains everyday and I can't seem to remove any of them!

Love the hot pink chair in the garden too:)

    1. I was really amazed too! And you should see my sons socks that used to be white - I can't seem to budge those terrible stains (how on earth do they do it? Do they roll in mud?), so I think I got really lucky this time.
